Heavy rain fall around Sistway cause another problem for refugees

Heavy rain fall around Sistway caused additional problem for the refugees because water reached into their accommodation.

An Arakanese refugee said, “We are currently facing food scarcity. Additionally, there have been raining for two days. Because our temporary shelters are not good enough, the water drained into our places.”

The government’s delivery of food was delayed because of the rain.Moreover some of the refugee camps do not get food yet and monasteries and some people are helping the refugees.

“The monks are giving feeding them. We can’t provide enough space for them because they are many. Those who don’t have any shelters get wet.” said an Abbot from Sistway.

Many people became homeless after the week-long riots in Arakan State. The government, some organizations and individual donators are helping the refugees.

Muslims refugees came to Gyingla Thalchaung village, Kongtagar village, Thalchaung Ohmtaw village, Aung Mingala village and Thetkal Pying village and are in need of help said the locals.

“No aid is provided yet. Here are over 5,000 refugees. They are from Sistway and other places.” said U Hla Sein, a religious leader from Gyingla village.

According to the records form Arakanese Regional Government, during June 8 to 13, the numbers of building burnt were 1,192 Arakanese houses and 1,336 Muslim houses, which totaled 1,528 houses, 7 mosques, 9 monasteries and 1 school. The tolls of the dead were 16 Muslims and13 Arakanese. The wounded were 14 Arakanese and 22 Muslims.
